t's War! The Nokia N96 And Sony Ericsson X1 Are Going Head To Head! was written by Matt Sharp
As we head to the crucial Christmas period, it's time to see how the two biggest names in the world of mobile phones stack up, and as they send their prize-fighters out, we ask the question: which will win, the Nokia N96, or the Sony Ericsson X1?
Nokia N96 - pure awesomeness!
Last year was a year of big things for Nokia. Big mobile phones, big ideas, and big decisions. The first, and most probable thing you're almost certainly thinking about when you see Nokia, nowadays, is their Nseries of mobile phones, multimedia powerhouses that, basically, do anything. Up to now, the biggest of that stunning range is the Nokia N95, one of the biggest sellers of last year, and a truly great phone, as well. It had it all: 5 megapixel camera, great media player, GPS, and in its later revision, 8Gb of memory. It was a truly jaw-dropping device, and of the huge range of mobile phones that Nokia sell, that one was easily the biggest hit of last year.
Well, the Nseries is aiming for brand new heights, with the Nokia N96. We've heard before how such and such will be one of the best mobile phones, but here, it might just be true! Sitting within a sexy body, the best way to describe the Nokia N96 is as an N95 in the body of an N81. It foregoes the hard edges, and straight lines of the N95, in favour of flowing curves and glossy panels, to give the image of a smooth, glittering jewel. There's no doubt, very few mobile phones look this sexy! And then, when you look at its list of specs, it gets even better; Nokia have crammed in a 5 megapixel camera, N-Gage gaming, a superior, if that's possible, media player, and crucially, the memory's been upped to 16Gb, which is just huge. Basically, the Nokia N96 looks as though it will be one of 2008's biggest mobile phones!
In doesn't have everything its own way, though, as the Sony Ericsson X1 is here to stand up to it!
Sony Ericsson X1 - Sony Ericsson and Windows Mobile make enticing bedfellows...
It's not been announced yet whether the new X-Series range of phone will ALL be built on Windows Mobile, so we'll have to just go by the Sony Ericsson X1, the flagship mobile phone in the range. And what a phone it is! Powered by Windows Mobile, with a fab 3 megapixel camera, built in GPS, and mentally fast internet access, the Sony Ericsson X1 may well be the first in the line, but I'm telling you now, it won't be the last!
Quite simply, the Sony Ericsson X1 is stunning, and it'll most likely, be my next mobile phone. Looking at it subjectively, with my phone-buying heart, AS WELL AS my logical head, it's damn near perfect. But then, the same can be said of the Nokia N96. With a product range as broad as that, it's no wonder Sony Ericsson are going to be going great guns this year. In the business of mobile phones, innovation is what matters, and with the Sony Ericsson X1, they are proving that they're really good at doing that! Between the Nokia N96 and the Sony Ericsson X1, there's one heck of a fight brewing in the world of smartphones!
